The Saturn Entertainment Group is the subject of the lead cover story of this month's Screen Finance Magazine. The article, which announces the launch of Saturn Capital's (initial) £10m fund for producers, states that the company occupies a unique space in the media market. It states that venture capitalists, the most commonly perceived solution to producer's financing problems, such as 3i and Sagitta Private Equity, will now only invest in companies with high, multi-million pound valuations.
A number of recent deals were quoted, including the takeover bid for Chrysalis's television production and distribution arm, and the partial Hat Trick sale to Kleinwort Capital. Tell-Tale Productions were also mentioned, although Saturn™ has not yet launched the opportunity to investors.
Saturn Chief Executive, Mark Hiley, was quoted - from a recent speech at Channel 4 - as saying that production companies need to plan an intelligent exit strategy for investors. "Without an exit strategy, venture capital cash is not an investment but a donation!"
